I was born again in a church that did not believe in being born again at the age of 5 (John 3:1-21). I searched for truth about my relationship with God in many different ways. I attended many different churches over the next 16 years and tried to understand why they had a form of Godliness but denied the Power there of (2 Timothy 3:5). It was only when I was filled with the Holy Spirit at the age of 21 (Ephesians 5:18) (Acts 8:14-19) that my understanding of how the Holy Spirit was here to lead and guide us into all truth was discovered. Through prophecy I discovered that I was called to the office of a Prophet as is described in the working of the 5 fold ministry (Ephesians 4:11). The purpose of which is to prepare God’s people for the work of service. From that point on every 2 years no matter where I was in the world, either in church or just at a rally, someone of notoriety (not just some saint who feels led to prophecy) would called me out of the meeting and prophecy over me and confirm the above.
These prophecies usually were pretty long and would always say God was building a skyscraper and that the foundation had to be firmly established. This has resulted in many 40 day fasts and a great deal of prayer and soul searching. I have always been an entrepreneur even though I studied to become a Civil Engineer and a Computer Engineer. This was one way that I tried to avoid the Office of a Prophet(Ephesians 4:11).
At about 30 years of age I went full time into the ministry because I saw a need and felt compelled by the Holy Spirit to respond to the call. I took a small group of multi racial musicians into Soweto where the different tribes were practicing what was called necklaceing. They would take a car tire and fill it with gasoline and place it over the individuals head and shoulders and set it on fire to watch them burn to death.
For the next 4 years 3 times a day our ministry would minister to crowds ranging between 2,500-5,000 people. On occasions the crowds were much larger. The largest being with Reinhard Bonnke where there were 37,000 people in attendance. The one thing that became more and more evident was that when we humbled ourselves under the mighty hand of God and allowed the Holy Spirit to move in an unprecedented way, signs, wonders and miracles would take place (1 Corinthians 2:4).
One incident that burnt an imprint on my soul was a crusade in Soweto’s Jabulani Amphitheater. We had contacted Clive Hardy the leader of the 4 Jacks and a Jill to ask for his help with respect to his sound system. They had 2 enormous walls of Bose 802 speakers that could punch a hole in any crowd. The Carpenter’s Workshop setup their equipment with his on a clear blue sky sunny day and ran a few tests to prove everything was in working order. Then we set about praying for one another and for the crusade about to take place. The crowd filled the stadium to capacity in the usual way. Much singing from certain quarters but something was different. A crowd of Sangoma or Witch Doctors were all seated close to the stage on the left hand side. As we were about to start the sky changed from blue to black almost instantaneously and a downpour like never before erupted. We were not able to see one another and had to gingerly grope around the stage to find one another. When we were gathered together we attempted to scream above the howling wind and rain to no avail. After much screaming we were all of the understanding to walk to edge of the stage where the Sangoma’s were sitting and began praising God. We took authority over the storm (Mark 4:39) and it immediately subsided. The amphitheater’s floor was covered in mud. The only thing we could do was to give an Alter call. Most of the crowd started to make their way down towards the stage but then an interesting thing happened. The Sangoma’s all came down to receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. If that was not enough demonstration of the presence of Gods Shekinah Glory (YEHOVAH’S Shekinah Glory is defined as the visible manifestation of the presence of YEHOVAH God — often showing up in the form of a cloud, light, fire or combinations of these. It is the majestic presence or manifestation of YEHOVAH in which He descends from Heaven to dwell (shakan) among men.) multiple healings took place. With my 2 interpreters Bangani and Saint, a Zulu and a Xhosa who were used to translate each of the 8 languages spoken in Soweto, we started to go down the prayer line praying for the people. Driven by the Holy Spirit I was compelled after laying hands upon a young girl to tell her to run around the stadium. The crowed erupted in an uproar that you would expect in a soccer game. After things quieted down I asked my interpreters to tell me what had just happened. They informed me that the girl had been a quadriplegic and that God had healed her (1 Peter 2:24). Praise God, He lives.
For the next 4 years The Lord used me to Prophecy over many people, sometime an exhortation, sometime a future event, but mostly a Word of Knowledge. Of the 9 Gifts of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12)(3 spoken gifts – 3 revelation gifts – 3 power gifts) the area in which the Holy Spirit uses me the most is Word of Knowledge, Word of Wisdom, Discerning of Spirits.
I am compelled to rightly divide the Word, which sometime is misconstrued as me putting myself above the other persons understanding but quite to the contrary it’s more about The Lord leading me into deeper and deeper Spiritual Truth. I will not preach anything else other than Jesus Christ being the center of it all (John 3:16) through an intimate glorious relationship that results in a walk of Faith (2 Corinthians 5:7) (Hebrews 11:6) that pleases God. Out of the abundance of the Heart speaks forth the mouth. It has the power of life or death. (Proverbs 18:21)(James 3:6). It’s the overflow. In any conversation, it can get rather boring because I always reduce the conversation to how does this bring glory to God, or how does this show the way to God (Psalm 25:4).
I have tried to avoid telling people what the call is on my life because it usually is very misunderstood. As a result I have started and run many start up businesses successfully. I was the Dean of a Bible School trying to not fulfill the call of God on my life and function in the Office of a Prophet. I would run home cells with Jewish and Arab people in the same room. On one such occasion there was a taxi war going on outside the home where I was teaching. My back was towards the windows when an AK47 shot off an entire clip followed by 2 rounds from what I was later told sounded like a Glock handgun. Everyone in the room fell to the floor with the exception of me. When it was all over the Jews and Arabs were astonished that I had carried on teaching. This led to many questions and answers and many being led to the Lord that night (Romans 3:23). God was in the house. Amen.
So on and off for about 30 years I have ministered as the Holy Spirit wills (1Corinthians 12:11). I now find myself again being driven towards fulltime ministry. I preach and teach as the Holy Spirit wills. I invest a lot of time in studying the word (2 Timothy 2:15) so as to communicate it in a very practical way when I am led to minister. People need answers not information. They require procedure not ear tickling. If I preach I am responsible for the outcome of the service. The spirit of the Prophet is subject to the Prophet (1 Corinthians 14:32). I understand authority (Romans 13) and never seek to usurp it. If I can’t submit to leadership, then I can’t lead. Usually the Lord will have me walk through a situation before I minister to that situation. That is how the practical reality is invested into the people, through personal testimony (2 Timothy 1:8).
Just yesterday I was asked to please carve out some time to talk to a friend one on one. He called 3 times as I watched the phone and did not feel led to answer. In desperation he went to church where his pastor made a call for the situation that he was going through. He responded and was told he needed to be intimate with the Lord. Later that day I met with him, recounted prophetically what he had been told without him voicing what had happened. This got his attention and proved that God had his situation under control. For 3.5 hours I shared testimony after testimony, practical application, and rightly divided the Word of God. Some information was for the frontal lobe of his brain but most was burned into this long term memory as one does when telling stories or dreams (Acts 2:17).
I am aware that this all sounds like bragging but I don’t know how to be anything other than direct. My makeup is very black and white. I am not without compassion. At church when I am on for all 4 services and I get the privilege of ministering to some of the flock, I find myself weeping. The burden is too great. The need is extensive. Because I am a man under authority I am limited by what we are allowed to do as ministers at Church. However; that does not stop the Holy Spirit from revealing (1 Corinthians 2:10) to me what circumstances these people find themselves in.
As to where do I see myself fitting in at church, I don’t really know. I do not fit the Corporate 500 Leadership model and yet I identify myself the Spiritual Leadership book by J. Oswald Sanders very easily. He talks about are we a Prophet or Leader? Primarily Prophet that preaches as God bids him and that a Spiritual Leader should be Spirit Filled and called and appointed by God. (Ephesians 5:18). Many of the principles found in that book I have experienced. I recently began looking for a Seminary to do an M/DIV or similar to have the credentials necessary to enter fulltime ministry. However; after reading his book it would be counterproductive to how the Lord uses me in ministry.
One good thing that has recently happened is the formation of a team. We are small in number just 4 but capable of being very effective for Christ because we are passionately pursuing Him. Our skill sets are vast and well honed. We all agree that God is about to use us mightily. But as to what we have no clue. One thing is very clear we are all prepared to make a giant leap of Faith (Hebrews 11:1).
