Bill’s Soup for the Soul – Prayer & Fasting 2

Let me just say that I have personally done four 40 day water only fasts in my lifetime and many 21 day Daniel fasts. The object of the fast is not to loose weight or to force yourself to read your Bible etc, but to use the time that has been freed up to pray and become more intimate with God. When you chastise your flesh your Spirit man soars and your Soul is able to begin the process of Sanctification. Big word but it just means the washing of your Soul with the Word of God. So here is my dads soup that sustained me after those 40 day fasts. It is very bland so no feeling sick in the stomach. I also have a video on my sons Tyler, Parker and me making the soup. Check it out by going to the menu and clicking on the video section. Enjoy and Praise the Lord!

BILL’S  SOUP Cost to make it = $34.64 before tax.

1 cup soup mix, soaked overnight   (lentils, split peas, barley etc mix) $2.99
3 large tomatoes, skinned and chopped $5.06
2 large potatoes, cubed $1.84
3 large onions, roughly chopped $3.03
1 bunch celery $1.49
6 leeks, sliced about 1/8 thick.   Use the green leaves too. $4.98
6 carrots, sliced $2.99
4 turnips, sliced and then quartered $5.76
1 kg soup meat (shin, with small bone) $5.03
1 beef cube dissolved in 300 mls hot water $1.49
1 tspn salt
¼ tspn pepper

Cover meat with cold water and bring to the boil.
Add all the other ingredients and bring back to the boil.
Simmer for two hours, adding more hot water if necessary.
When you cut up the celery use both stalks and leaves.
This makes enough for 10 servings and requires a 5 litre pot
